2 Corinthians 5:17 · NASB · 1 of 6
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Word study · Greek
καινὴ κτίσις
new creature · kainē ktisis · a new creation, a new created thing
Kainos is new in kind, not new in time. Not a repaired Adam. Genesis language: ktisis — creation. Union with Christ is a second beginning.
Insight
Paul does not say ‘he is becoming.’ He says he is. The condition is location: in Christ. The old is not dying a long death in the basement. It passed away. ‘Behold’ is the command to look at what God has already done, not at the mirror of yesterday. Identity is not self-esteem with Bible verses. It is a change of world.
